SURABAYA – The government has begun tightening supervision. This step is taken to ensure availability remains safe amid various challenges, including the threat of climate change.

The Minister of Agriculture of Indonesia conducted a direct inspection at the Banjarkemantren Warehouse Complex owned by Perum Bulog Surabaya Branch, East Java.

The visit was welcomed by the President Director of Bulog along with management. Also present were the Director of Procurement of Bulog and the Regional Head of Bulog East Java.

During the inspection, it was revealed that the government’s rice reserve condition is currently very strong. Bulog recorded that national rice stock has reached 4.9 million tons—the highest figure in Indonesia’s history.

This amount is even projected to soon reach 5 million tons in the near future.

“This is part of our commitment to maintaining transparency and accountability in food stock management. We provide the widest possible access so the public can see the conditions on the ground directly,” said Rizal.

Not only conducting checks, the Minister of Agriculture also appreciated Bulog’s steps involving various community elements in the supervision process. From students, academics to experts, they were involved in conducting direct verification of rice stock conditions.

According to Amran, this approach is important to build public trust.

“I see directly how Bulog works openly. There is a cross-check process from various community elements, this is very good,” he stated.

Anticipating El Nino Impact

On the other hand, the government also continues to strengthen strategies to face potential food production disruptions, including the impact of the El Nino phenomenon.

Anticipatory steps are taken through strengthening irrigation systems and various strategic programs in the agricultural sector.

Maintaining Stability and Food Security

This visit underscores the synergy between the government and Bulog in maintaining national food supply stability. Besides ensuring stock remains safe, this step also aims to keep food prices affordable for the public.

With professional and open management, Bulog is expected to continue maintaining public trust while strengthening Indonesia’s food security in the future.
