MOJOKERTO – A severe accident occurred on the Jombang–Mojokerto (Jomo) Toll Road, precisely at Kilometer 710+600A towards Mojokerto on Friday night (18/7/2025). A car with license plate N 1478 ABN caught fire after being dragged by a truck for 200 meters.

In this tragic incident, a family from Lowokwaru, Malang City, became victims. The car, driven by Susiawan (49), carried two passengers: Syanti Dewi (33) and Afrio Fahreza (21). All three suffered injuries and were immediately rushed to Gedeg Hospital in Mojokerto for treatment.

According to authorities, the accident was likely caused by the driver’s lack of concentration. The Avanza collided with the rear of a truck moving ahead of it.

“After the collision, the car was dragged approximately 200 meters. Sparks emerged from the engine compartment, quickly igniting a massive fire that left the vehicle completely burned,” explained the officer.

The female passenger, Syanti Dewi, suffered the most severe injuries, while Susiawan and Afrio sustained minor wounds.

Notably, the truck involved in the accident has yet to be located. Reports indicate it continued driving without stopping at the scene.

“We are still tracking down the suspected Category 2 vehicle. By the time officers arrived at the scene, the truck was already gone,” the officer stated.

Meanwhile, the Head of Operations at Astra Tol Jomo confirmed the accident, stating that toll officers immediately responded to assist with evacuation and traffic control.

Police are still investigating the exact cause of the accident and attempting to identify the hit-and-run truck.

The Avanza was completely destroyed by the intense fire. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance while driving on highways, especially at night.
