Fishermen in Muncar, Banyuwangi can now breathe a sigh of relief. This follows Telkomsel’s response to the request from the Governor of East Java to strengthen the telecommunications network in the coastal waters of Banyuwangi.
This initiative began with the East Java Governor’s visit to a fishermen’s group at the Muncar Pier last July. At that time, the fishermen complained about the weak telecommunications signal while at sea, especially in the Blue Bay waters.
Blue Bay is a strategic area with 97 illuminated floating platforms for catching anchovies and squid, involving at least 13,102 fishermen. A reliable signal is a vital necessity, not only for communicating with families but also for operating the vessel monitoring system.
Without a strong network, safety risks at sea increase as fishermen find it difficult to coordinate or report emergency conditions.
