The Narcotics Investigation Unit of the Deli Serdang Police thwarted the distribution of methamphetamine by arresting two couriers who were about to transport the illicit goods to Jakarta. From the two couriers, a backpack typically used for hiking and a suitcase were seized, containing 20 plastic packages of methamphetamine weighing 21,142 grams or over 21 kilograms.
The two suspects have the initials R (29), a resident of Bireuen Regency, Aceh Province, and Z (34), a resident of Medan Belawan, North Sumatra Province.
Both couriers were arrested while passing through in an online taxi at 09:00 AM local time on a Tuesday, on the Sumatra Cross Road (Jalinsum) in Lubuk Pakam. Both are currently still undergoing questioning for further case development.
The case was uncovered based on information that was followed up with an investigation and surveillance of two suspected perpetrators in the Pajak Baru area, Belawan. It was observed that one of the suspects moved towards Sisingamangaraja Street in Medan, heading to Belawan on a Monday night, and was continuously followed.
The movements of the two suspects were continuously monitored. They moved using an online taxi, carrying a blue backpack and a clothing suitcase towards Lubuk Pakam at 06:00 AM local time on a Tuesday.
While passing through the Sumatra Cross Road in Lubuk Pakam, the online taxi was intercepted and both couriers were arrested along with their belongings, the backpack and the suitcase. Upon opening them, 10 green plastic packages of Chinese tea were found in the backpack and the suitcase contained another 10 green plastic packages of Chinese tea, suspected to contain methamphetamine.
Furthermore, two Android mobile phones suspected of being used as communication devices for transactions were also seized from the two couriers.
The disclosure of this case is a form of the Deli Serdang Police’s seriousness in breaking the chain of narcotics distribution, especially on inter-provincial routes.
“There is no room for illicit drug traffickers within the jurisdiction of the Deli Serdang Police,” was the statement.
The public was also urged to continue playing an active role in providing information to support the ongoing fight against drugs.
