The VI Regional Conference of North Sumatra PDIP DPD has officially opened. The conference taking place at Hotel Grand Mercure was opened by the Chairman for Organization and Membership.
The importance of paying attention to geopolitics, geo-economics and geo-strategy in viewing world geopolitics was emphasized.
“North Sumatra is an important region due to its strategic position geographically, geo-economically, geo-strategically, including geopolitically. Therefore, political parties have long viewed North Sumatra as a very important region in Indonesia,” it was stated.
Geographically, North Sumatra directly borders neighboring countries. Its position serves as an open gateway to the world.
Regarding management composition, following directives and current realities, special attention must be given to young people going forward.
Young people represent the party’s greatest asset for the future.
Additionally, representation or aspects of regional representation are also important matters.
“Don’t let personal relationships or family ties suppress others who might actually represent a region. Representation is important. Future management formation must consider this from the beginning – the aspects of youth and representation,” it was emphasized.
Whoever is elected must return to the roots – return to the community, to the common people.
“Taking sides with the common people is the message conveyed as our spirit,” it was stated.
Attending the VI conference were various regional heads and the North Sumatra Governor for the 2018-2023 period.
North Sumatra
North Sumatra is a province on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, renowned for its stunning natural landscapes centered around Lake Toba, the largest volcanic lake in the world. The region is the homeland of the Batak people, whose distinct cultures and traditions have been preserved for centuries. Historically, it was also home to significant pre-Islamic kingdoms and later became a major center for trade and plantation agriculture under Dutch colonial rule.
Indonesia
Indonesia is the world’s largest archipelago nation, located in Southeast Asia, with a history deeply shaped by Hindu-Buddhist empires like Srivijaya and Majapahit, followed by centuries of colonial rule by the Dutch. It is renowned for its vast cultural and linguistic diversity, stunning natural landscapes ranging from volcanoes and rainforests to beaches, and iconic sites such as the Borobudur Temple. The country declared its independence in 1945 and is now the world’s most populous Muslim-majority nation.
Hotel Grand Mercure
Hotel Grand Mercure is a modern international hotel chain, part of the Accor group, known for its upscale accommodations and services. Unlike a historic landmark, its history is tied to the global expansion of the Accor brand, with individual hotels typically occupying contemporary buildings in prime city locations. Each property is designed to reflect a sense of local culture and place while providing consistent, high-quality hospitality.
Medan
Medan is the capital and largest city of North Sumatra, Indonesia, historically developing from a small village into a major economic hub due to the 19th-century plantation industry, particularly for tobacco. The city’s cultural heritage is reflected in landmarks like the Maimun Palace, the former royal seat of the Deli Sultanate, and its diverse population of Malay, Batak, Chinese, and Indian communities.
