A parking attendant identified by initials AS (24) broke into the office of the community organization Barisan Pemuda Nusantara (Bapera) in Medan City, North Sumatra. The perpetrator stole various items, such as doors and electrical cables.
The head of criminal investigation at the Medan Kota Police Precinct stated that the theft occurred at the Bapera office on Jalan Mahkamah, Medan Kota District, on Monday (April 6, 2026). The perpetrator was arrested on Tuesday (May 19).
“We secured the perpetrator on the edge of the railroad tracks on Jalan Mahkamah. The perpetrator tried to run before the team managed to apprehend him,” he said on Thursday (May 21).
He said the theft was discovered after a colleague told the victim that the office had been broken into. The victim then went to the location and checked the items inside the office.
The inspection revealed that several items were missing, including four door frames, four wooden door leaves, 20 iron window bars, two iron doors, room partitions, and electrical installation cables. The loss from this theft is estimated at around 40 million rupiah.
Following the incident, the victim filed a report with the Medan Kota Police Precinct. The police, upon receiving the report, pursued the perpetrator until finally arresting him.
According to the perpetrator’s confession, he committed the theft with a friend identified by initial A. The proceeds from the theft were used to buy a hat and to have fun.
He stated that the perpetrator AS is a repeat offender who had previously been imprisoned for theft. In 2020, the perpetrator was sentenced to 3 years in prison, and in 2024, he was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison.
“The money from the crime was used to buy a hat and have fun with his friends,” he concluded.
