Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung, opened the Jakarta Fire Safety Challenge event organized by the Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat) of DKI Jakarta Province, in the yard of the Gulkarmat Service Office, Central Jakarta.
“I truly welcome this activity,”
This event was held as an effort to enhance the skills and preparedness of building managers and volunteer firefighters in facing potential fire hazards.
In his speech, Governor Pramono expressed his appreciation for the organization of this event, considering that fires remain one of the disasters that frequently occur in the capital.
“I truly welcome the initiative to hold this event,” said Pramono.
Fire incidents, Pramono continued, are one of the disasters that frequently occur in urban areas, especially in densely populated residential areas, building structures, and industrial zones.
In 2025, a total of 1,195 fire incidents were recorded in Jakarta, resulting in material losses and casualties. According to him, the occurrence of these fire incidents indicates several unresolved issues.
Among them are the suboptimal implementation of fire prevention programs, installed early fire protection systems not functioning properly, and a lack of human resources capable of performing early-stage extinguishing as an anticipatory measure.
Out of the 1,195 fire incidents that occurred throughout 2025, 267 fires were handled by the community. He also appreciated the involvement of all community elements in addressing fire incidents.
“The involvement of all community elements must continue to be enhanced to ensure that fire handling is carried out quickly, safely, and effectively,” he stated.
Therefore, the organization of the Jakarta Fire Safety Challenge is an important step to improve the capacity and competence of building emergency response personnel and the community in facing potential fires. This activity is expected to build collective awareness of the importance of massive fire prevention and mitigation.
The participation of 440 volunteer firefighters from 44 district teams and 1,456 building emergency response team members from 112 companies is tangible evidence of the commitment and concern to safeguard Jakarta.
This activity is expected to enhance the competency capacity of both Redkar and building emergency response teams to be more responsive and professional in facing fire threats and incidents.
During the event, the Governor also gave appreciation to the Jakarta firefighters who have received extraordinary public recognition.
The Provincial Government (Pemprov) of DKI Jakarta will remain committed to strengthening fire prevention and mitigation efforts through the implementation of various established regulations and activities involving all community elements. This step is expected to reduce fire risks and impacts.
“Thank you to the volunteer firefighters, members of the building emergency response teams, and other community elements who have contributed to handling fire incidents in Jakarta,” he said.
In his report, it was explained that the 2025 Jakarta Fire Safety Challenge was attended by 112 teams from building managers in Jakarta and 44 teams from District-Level Volunteer Firefighter Members or Redkar in the Jakarta region.
This event aims to enhance the solidarity, knowledge, and skills of participants in firefighting, rescue, and first aid for victims. The competition will last for four days starting on September 15, 2025.
“The implementation of the activity is carried out by the Fire and Rescue Service of DKI Jakarta Province in collaboration with institutions, certification bodies, professions, fire protection agencies, and other associations,” it was emphasized.
