West Jakarta Combats Pungent Garbage Odor with B-8 Technology
The West Jakarta Environmental Agency, in collaboration with the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), is intensifying the use of eco-friendly technology to eliminate pungent odors at the Temporary Waste Disposal Site (TPS) RW 02, Kampung Randu, Duri Kosambi, Cengkareng.

The Deputy Mayor of West Jakarta stated that waste management in Jakarta is complex because, despite daily collection, the waste never seems to diminish.

However, the community has now become aware and understands how to handle waste in their environment, from sorting and reducing to recycling.

“Currently, we are addressing waste using an eco-friendly formula or technology called B-8, a disinfectant liquid that reportedly eliminates strong odors,” the Deputy Mayor said.

The technology involves an organic disinfectant liquid containing lactic acid, which has several benefits, including suppressing pungent odors. The Deputy Mayor hopes this disinfectant will be effective in managing waste at TPS sites.

“If it has been tested, we will evaluate the results. Whether this technology makes waste treatment easier, the same, or more complicated,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Head of the West Jakarta Environmental Agency explained that they are collaborating with PMI Jakarta to conduct environmental control using eco-friendly probiotic bacteria, specifically B-8.

“This is one of our efforts to reduce environmental impacts, particularly odors at TPS sites. It also implements the success of PMI West Jakarta, especially its youth division, which won the overall/favorite award at the 2025 Jakarta-level Jumbara competition,” he said.

The probiotic bacteria are applied through spraying at TPS sites. “These probiotic bacteria contain lactic acid, which helps break the chain of pathogens from viruses/bacteria that cause odors,” he explained.

The eco-friendly technology is also useful in eliminating odors and reducing fly populations.

“This spraying is the first step toward continuous activities in the West Jakarta area,” he added.
