Five Family Members in West Jakarta Die in House Fire

Five people died in a house fire in Grogol Petamburan, West Jakarta. The incident left deep sorrow as all five victims were members of the same family.
The fire occurred early in the morning, around 2:18 AM. The burned house was located on Jalan Rambutan Timur 6, RT 05 RW 04, Tanjung Duren Utara Village, Grogol Petamburan District.
“The fire object was a residence. There were five fatalities,” said an official from the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Operations Sub-Department.
For the initial response, 8 fire trucks along with 40 firefighters were deployed to the scene. Firefighters found the victims while combing through the interior of the house.
“Around 3:55 AM, officers found five lifeless victims on the 2nd floor,” the official said.
A total of 11 fire trucks and 55 firefighters were ultimately deployed to the scene. The firefighting operation was declared complete at 4:53 AM.
Suspected to be Caused by a Short Circuit
The house fire in Grogol Petamburan is suspected to have been triggered by an electrical problem. Authorities are still investigating this fire that killed 5 people.
“The suspected cause, for now, is believed to be an electrical phenomenon,” said an official.
The burned area was approximately 40 square meters. Firefighters reported that one family consisting of 5 people was affected.
Victims Trapped by Smoke During the Fire
The fire occurred while residents were still resting. The victims are suspected to have been trapped by fire or smoke when it happened, preventing them from escaping the house to save themselves.
“There were five victims, one family. They were trapped by smoke,” said an official from the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-Department’s Duty Officer.
The burned house was a 2-story building. On the 1st floor, the front of the house had a fence installed.
Firefighters Broke Down the Victim’s House Fence
Firefighters revealed the fire is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit on the power pole in front of the victim’s house. The fire then spread quickly to the house while the victims were asleep.
“What burned was a residence. The fire is suspected to have come from an electrical short circuit on the power pole and went directly into the house,” said an official.
The firefighting team admitted difficulty in extinguishing the blaze. Firefighters were forced to break down the fence to put out the fire inside the house
