Jakarta Governor revealed that 716 people became victims due to protests that occurred in the capital over the past few days. He said medical treatment costs would be covered by the Jakarta Provincial Government.
“There are 716 people who became victims of the protests, and all costs for over 700 people were fully covered by the Jakarta Regional Government,” said Pramono after a Regional Leadership Coordination Forum meeting at Jakarta City Hall.
Pramono did not provide details about the victims, but confirmed that all medical treatment and healthcare costs would be covered by the government.
Meanwhile, on the same occasion, Metro Jaya Police Chief stated that his party had arrested 1,240 people related to the disturbances in Jakarta. He said those arrested came from outside Jakarta.
“We need to convey that as of now, Metro Jaya Police from the beginning of the incident until now have arrested approximately 1,240 people, who come from areas outside Jakarta, some from West Java, some from Java, and some from Banten,” said the Police Chief at City Hall.
He said his party had also detected perpetrators related to cases of looting and destruction of public facilities in Jakarta. He stated they are still conducting investigations to promptly process them legally.
“And for those who carried out destruction or looting, we have detected them, we just need to wait to take firm action, arrests, please pray that everything goes well. As for the numbers, we will announce them later as it’s technical since our team is still working and hopefully going forward this situation remains conducive,” he explained.
The Police Chief said together with the Jakarta Military Commander had received instructions to take firm action against perpetrators of destruction and anarchic actions. He hopes Jakarta becomes more peaceful.
“For those who express opinions peacefully, that is not problematic, no problem. Hopefully going forward Jakarta city will become increasingly safe and peaceful,” he said.
