Tangsel Waste Crisis Seeks Bogor’s Help: City Diverts 200 Tons of Daily Waste to Cileungsi, Bogor Regency Demands Formal Coordination
Depok — The South Tangerang City Government has taken emergency measures to address the accumulation of waste in its area, which occurred after shipments to the Cilowong Final Waste Processing Site (TPAS) in Serang were temporarily halted due to resident protests. The temporary solution taken is to divert the disposal of 200 tons of waste per day to Cileungsi, Bogor Regency, for the next 14 days.
The Mayor of South Tangerang emphasized that this diversion aims to prevent waste piles in residential areas and public spaces. “The move to Cileungsi is taken to ensure there is no accumulation of waste at residential points or public spaces in South Tangerang,” he stated, while ensuring that the City Government continues to seek long-term waste management solutions.
Coordination Demands from Bogor Regency Government
This sudden plan from the South Tangerang City Government was met with a cautious response from the Bogor Regency Government. The Head of the Bogor Regency Environmental Agency acknowledged that the situation faced by South Tangerang is a “waste emergency” and normatively, as fellow citizens, assistance should be provided.
However, he objected to the lack of formal communication before the plan was announced to the public.
“Regarding this incidental matter, perhaps because it was very incidental without considering future problems, they immediately stated it like that without coordinating with the local government where they are dumping,” he said.
The Head of the Bogor Environmental Agency demanded that the South Tangerang City Government immediately coordinate intensively and in detail, especially since this issue involves territorial, administrative, and future environmental impacts.
“Coordination with the local government as a territorial matter should be done intensively or in detail so that the local government knows the plan and its mechanism,” he added.
He emphasized that the Bogor Regency Government needs to thoroughly assess the location and disposal mechanism so that the arising problem does not create new issues in the future. Meanwhile, the South Tangerang City Government is committed to evaluating the system comprehensively to avoid continuously relying on emergency inter-regional solutions.
