Depok

Dozens of students from an Islamic boarding school in Depok were rushed to the hospital after experiencing vomiting and diarrhea. Several of them required intensive care.

“On September 1, 2025, Bhayangkara Brimob Hospital received information and admitted a number of students from Baitul Quran Islamic Boarding School, who experienced nearly identical symptoms. These included complaints of dizziness, weakness, nausea and vomiting, and very frequent bowel movements,” stated the Head of Bhayangkara Brimob Hospital, AKBP Arinando Pratama.

He said that on Monday (9/1), 57 students were treated at Bhayangkara Brimob Hospital. Subsequently, 31 of them required hospitalization.

“The 57 students who arrived were immediately handled by the Brimob Hospital medical team. After triage and initial treatment, it was determined they required further inpatient care, including fluids and treatment from pediatric specialists,” he explained.

Then, 26 were declared fit for discharge. In total, as of today, 72 students have received treatment at Brimob Hospital.

“The remaining 26 could be discharged for outpatient care. As of September 3, a total of 72 students have received treatment at Brimob Hospital,” he said.

He stated that out of the 72 people, many required further treatment due to symptoms of dehydration or lack of fluids. As of today, 10 students have completed their medical treatment.

“So from those 72, 42 of them required further inpatient care due to symptoms of dehydration or lack of fluids. As of the 3rd, thankfully, 10 students have been able to go home, and 32 students currently remain requiring further treatment,” he explained.

Brimob Hospital coordinated with the Tugu Community Health Center and the Depok Health Office in handling this matter. The Health Office quickly deployed a surveillance team to identify the cause of the symptoms in the dozens of students.

“And (the Health Office) took samples from the students’ vomit for further examination. We hope that in the next few days the condition of these students will continue to improve. And of course, we hope these students recover fully and can return to the boarding school to carry out their usual activities,” he concluded.
