Depok City –
The Directorate General of Immigration at the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections arrested a foreign national from the United States, identified as AW, who was a fugitive in a sexual abuse case. AW has now been deported from Indonesia.
“The deportation process has been completed,” said the Director General of Immigration, Hendarsam Marantoko, when contacted on Sunday, June 7, 2026.
The Directorate General of Immigration previously conducted an examination of AW. Based on coordination with the U.S. Embassy, AW was subjected to immigration administrative action in the form of deportation and blacklisting.
“At 10:00 AM local time, the team departed from the Directorate General of Immigration for Soekarno-Hatta Airport to supervise and deport one U.S. citizen named AW,” he stated.
The deportation process of AW was accompanied by the United States Marshals Service. The deportation process has been completed.
“Subsequently, the deportation was carried out using Singapore Airlines flight SQ959 at 1:45 PM. During the journey to the United States, the individual was accompanied by three members of the U.S. Marshals Service,” he explained.
The Directorate General of Immigration of the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections previously revealed that the U.S. citizen AW was being pursued by U.S. law enforcement after fleeing to Indonesia.
“AW is known to have entered Indonesia since 2011 to avoid legal proceedings for a sexual abuse case committed in the United States,” according to a statement from the Directorate General of Immigration on their Instagram account @ditjen_imigrasi on Friday, June 5.
AW had been a fugitive from U.S. law enforcement for at least 15 years. During their escape in Indonesia, AW falsified their identity.
AW also committed other immigration violations, including misuse of travel documents. The Directorate General of Immigration arrested AW, who was hiding in a bunker at their home in the Sawangan area, Depok City, West Java, on Thursday, April 23.
AW fled their country to avoid legal proceedings for a sexual abuse case committed in the U.S. In Indonesia, they also hid to avoid detection.
“From an immigration perspective, AW has been proven to have committed serious violations, including the use of false identity and misuse of travel documents,” he said.
