Cicadas quietly cleared, 16 inactive street vendor stalls removed, Bandung BRT route begins preparation.
Area organization is moving forward without disruption. The Bandung City Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) removed 16 stalls from inactive street vendors as an initial step to support the planned Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) route that will pass through the Cicadas area.
Efforts to organize public space in the Cicadas area, Cibeunying Kidul District, Bandung City, are showing concrete progress. Without large-scale crackdowns, the Bandung City Satpol PP chose a gentler approach by clearing vendor stalls that had long been unused.
The organization is part of preparations for developing the BRT route, designed to cross 12 districts in Bandung City, with Cicadas as one of the strategic points that the BRT mass transit development will pass through.
The Head of Public Peace and Order for the Bandung City Satpol PP, Yayan Ruyandi, emphasized that the activity was not an eviction, but a light organization of abandoned facilities.
“What we removed were wheels or vendor stalls that were no longer used for selling. There were 16 units in total, removed in two stages,” said Yayan.
Yayan explained that the removal was carried out on April 8 and April 20, 2026. Each stage involved around 30 personnel or one platoon of Satpol PP to ensure the process ran orderly and without disturbance.
“The presence of empty stalls left unattended for too long creates a shabby impression and disrupts the area’s aesthetics. Therefore, cleaning up is the most realistic initial step,” he said.
According to him, the area organization is also projected to support the new face of Cicadas as a modern transportation corridor. The planned BRT route will require more orderly, clean, and organized space.
Nevertheless, Yayan acknowledged that the overall organization process along the BRT route is still in the administrative stage. Currently, the government has only reached the issuance of the second warning letter (SP2).
“Full organization will be carried out after SP3 is issued. Everything still considers field conditions to avoid disruption,” he explained.
Yayan revealed that a persuasive approach is key in every organizational step taken. Satpol PP ensures the entire process runs through communication and mutual agreement.
“As a result, there was no rejection from vendors or local residents. The stalls that were removed had indeed been unused for a long time, so it was welcomed as an effort to tidy up the environment,” he said.
Yayan emphasized that the agreement involved various parties, from vendor coordinators, district officials, sub-district officials, to Satpol PP. The deliberation process is the main foundation so that policies run without conflict.
In addition to Cicadas, similar organization has also been carried out in several other points in Bandung City, including the Sukajadi area. The applied pattern remains the same, prioritizing communication over repressive actions.
The Bandung City Government considers small steps as an important foundation in building a more orderly and comfortable city for the community.
“Area organization is part of a larger strategy to support a more integrated public transportation system in the future,” said Yayan.
Yayan added that with the start of cleaning up unused stalls in Cicadas, signs of change in the face of the Cicadas area are increasingly visible, from a dense and messy area towards a more modern and organized transportation corridor.
