The economic movement of Bandung City continues to show a positive trend alongside the high activity in entertainment and tourism in urban areas. The Bandung City Government records that the entertainment tax sector is now one of the largest contributors to regional revenue after food and hotel taxes.
The Mayor of Bandung stated that the increasing public enthusiasm for football matches has a direct impact on the city’s economic turnover. High ticket sales for matches and the influx of tourists from outside the region are considered to contribute significantly to the revenue of the entertainment sector.
“When the match is won, online tickets sell out. Entertainment tax is also high. Now entertainment tax is in third place after food tax and hotel tax,” he said.
He revealed that the economic impact is not only felt by match organizers but also by community business sectors. Hotels, restaurants, culinary centers, transportation, and MSMEs all enjoy increased transactions during major matches in Bandung.
He explained that many supporters from outside the city come to Bandung not only to watch matches but also to travel and shop. This condition causes hotel occupancy rates and visits to culinary centers to experience a significant increase.
“Many benefit when the Persib club wins a championship title; the community’s economy improves, and tourism in Bandung City also increases,” he said.
In addition to the formal sector, small traders and sports merchandise sellers also feel the positive impact. Sales of jerseys, scarves, and street food usually increase when public enthusiasm for football is high.
He added that the trend of economic growth from the entertainment and sports sectors continues into the upcoming competition season. The high level of community activity in these sectors is believed to maintain economic turnover and strengthen the tourist appeal of Bandung City.
