Students Who Don’t Pass the 2025 SMPB Can Still Attend School for Free With Support from the Depok City Government

Monday, June 16, 2025 – The City Government of Depok ensures that students who do not pass the 2025 SMPB selection for elementary and junior high schools will still have access to free education, especially for underprivileged families. They will be directed to private schools with costs covered by the government, following the Constitutional Court’s decision on the mandatory nine years of free basic education.

The Mayor of Depok stated that additional budgets will be prepared to support this policy. However, funding is only available for students from underprivileged families, given the limited budget and varying costs of private schools.

The city government is also waiting for technical guidance from the central government regarding the implementation of the Constitutional Court’s decision. Additionally, cash assistance will also be provided: IDR 100,000/month for elementary students and IDR 150,000/month for junior high students. The mayor emphasized that education is a fundamental right that must be guaranteed by the state, not only to be free but also of high quality.
