The Supreme Court has directed that a high-profile divorce case be resolved within three months. The case involves industrialist Jaydev Shroff and his wife Poonam Jaydev Shroff, which has been pending for over a decade. The case is being heard in the Bandra Family Court in Mumbai. The case was heard in the Supreme Court on Friday, where the court stated that the Family Court might require 9 months, but it should be resolved as soon as possible.
The bench was informed about the prolonged duration of the case. It was also mentioned that the client had offered 90 crore rupees for the divorce settlement, but no agreement could be reached.
Previously, the petitions of Poonam Shroff were dismissed, in which she had sought either permission to reside with her husband in their Mumbai home or requested a payment of 35.37 lakh rupees per month for living separately.
Court’s warning…
The Chief Justice clearly stated, “If any party delays the proceedings, an adverse inference may be drawn against that party.” This directive was issued to ensure that the case is not unnecessarily prolonged.
The bench hearing this case stated that the matter has been pending since 2015 and should be resolved within three months.
