Shaniwar Wada

Shaniwar Wada is an 18th-century fortified palace in Pune, India, built in 1732 as the seat of the Peshwa rulers of the Maratha Empire. The complex was renowned for its impressive architecture, including strong fortifications and grand gates, but a major fire in 1828 destroyed most of its structures, leaving only the stone foundations and walls. Today, it stands as a protected monument and a popular historical site, famous for its gardens, fountains, and legends of hauntings.

Govardhan

Govardhan is a sacred hill located in the Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh, India, revered in Hinduism. According to legend, Lord Krishna lifted Govardhan Hill on his little finger to protect the villagers of Vrindavan from torrential rains sent by Lord Indra. It is a major pilgrimage site, with devotees performing a circumambulation (parikrama) around the hill as a central act of worship.

Govardhan Puja

Govardhan Puja is a Hindu festival that celebrates the victory of Lord Krishna over the god Indra. According to legend, Krishna lifted the Govardhan Hill to protect the villagers of Vrindavan from torrential rains sent by a wrathful Indra. The festival, which involves preparing and offering a large mound of food (an ‘annakut’) symbolizing the hill, is observed to express gratitude towards nature and cattle for their sustenance.

Attari Border

The Attari Border is the official land crossing between India and Pakistan, located near Amritsar in Punjab. It is historically significant as the site of the Wagah Border Ceremony, a daily military practice that originated after the 1947 Partition of India. This elaborate flag-lowering ritual now serves as a symbolic display of patriotism and rivalry between the two nations.

Aligarh Muslim University

Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is a prominent public university in Aligarh, India, founded in 1875 by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan as the Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College. It was established to promote modern education and social reform among Indian Muslims and was granted university status in 1920. Kal Bhairav Temple

The Kal Bhairav Temple is a historic Hindu shrine located in Ujjain, India, dedicated to Kal Bhairav, a fierce manifestation of Lord Shiva. It is believed to date back to ancient times and is mentioned in early Hindu scriptures like the Skanda Purana. The temple is renowned for its unique tradition of offering liquor to the deity as a form of prasad (religious offering).

Sabarkantha

Sabarkantha is a district located in the northeastern part of the Indian state of Gujarat. It is a region of historical significance, home to the ancient hill fort of Idar and numerous temples, with a history intertwined with various Rajput clans and princely states. The area is also known for its tribal heritage and vibrant cultural traditions.

Ram Ki Paidi

Ram Ki Paidi is a series of scenic ghats (riverfront steps) located in Ayodhya, India, on the banks of the Sarayu River. It was constructed in the 1980s to facilitate religious rituals and bathing for pilgrims. The ghats are a significant cultural and religious site, closely associated with the legendary history of Lord Rama and a central hub for festivals and devotional activities.
