Just 72 hours before the first phase of voting in the Bengal Election 2026, a viral video showing money distribution to voters has sparked intense controversy in North Dinajpur. The allegations are directed at Trinamool Congress. As soon as a video of money distribution on behalf of the Trinamool candidate from Chopra went viral, a huge uproar erupted in political circles. However, the authenticity of the viral video has not been verified. A heated exchange between Trinamool and BJP has begun over this. The BJP is set to file a complaint with the Election Commission regarding the matter.
The video footage clearly shows a Trinamool leader holding bundles of 500 rupee notes. Around him, party workers and supporters are waving the Trinamool party flag featuring the twin grass flower emblem. The video also shows individuals arriving one after another on motorcycles, and at a designated center, each person is handed a 500 rupee note. Following the release of this video, opposition parties have loudly accused the Trinamool candidate of distributing money to voters to secure their votes.
Incumbent MLA Hamidul Rahman is contesting the assembly elections from Chopra again this time. The opposition alleges that money is being distributed to voters on his behalf. They claim the candidate is seeking voter support in exchange for money. However, Trinamool candidate Hamidul Rahman refuses to take this accusation seriously. Instead, he claims, “Workers and supporters are always campaigning door to door. Someone might be giving them money to refuel their motorcycles. This has nothing to do with the elections.”
According to local sources, the person seen holding money in the video is named Mannan Ali. On Sunday evening, a bike rally was organized in the area in the presence of Trinamool candidate Hamidul Rahman. It is alleged that the money distribution took place before this event. BJP candidate from Chopra, Shankar Adhikari, alleged, “Trinamool is distributing money before the elections to influence voters. A complaint will be filed with the Election Commission regarding this matter.”
