In the case of the rape and murder of a young female doctor at RG Kar Medical College Hospital, the mother of the victim had previously raised questions about the CBI’s investigating officer. Now, former Calcutta High Court judge and current BJP MP Abhijit Gangopadhyay has directly questioned the role of Seema Pahuja. Not only that, on Saturday, he visited RG Kar Hospital and demanded that the investigating officer herself be brought under investigation.

Abhijit visited the emergency building of RG Kar Medical College on that day. It was in that same emergency building where the young doctor was raped and murdered. Why did Abhijit Gangopadhyay go there? In response to journalists’ questions, he said, “I have learned that Seema Pahuja, who was the CBI officer in charge of the investigation, did not perform two very important tasks. One room, which has been closed for nearly two years, where incriminating evidence could be found, she did not open. No one opened it. I went and saw for myself that it is still locked and sealed. I came to see if such a room really exists.”

Abhijit further said, “On the night the victim died and was killed, it is suspected that a dead body was being brought down a staircase. A nurse had taken a video. That video was taken by CBI’s Seema Pahuja. She told the nurse, ‘Delete your video. Otherwise, you will be in trouble.’ Who wants to be in trouble? She deleted the video and gave the copy to CBI’s Seema Pahuja. Since then, that video has never been made public.”

He claimed that the staircase leads directly to the emergency area. The body of the victim was found in a passage accessible from that staircase. The CBI has not yet examined any of this. In this context, he asked why the CBI has not yet had time to look into these matters. Additionally, he raised the question of who influenced Seema Pahuja. Abhijit has leveled allegations not against the CBI as a whole, but specifically against Seema Pahuja. He demanded that Seema Pahuja be included in the investigation as an accused.

Abhijit stated, “Isn’t this a very normal task? Why didn’t she do it? Who influenced her?” He also claimed that Seema Pahuja is involved in destroying evidence. He said, “She is definitely involved in suppression. Otherwise, the investigation would not be in this state. The CBI is a very large organization, very clever and shrewd. If such rotten apples exist in the CBI, the CBI’s reputation will suffer this way. So, I am not blaming the entire CBI. I see the fault in that specific officer. She should be included as an accused and interrogated.”

After the new government came to power, the file on the RG Kar case has been reopened. Three IPS officers who were in charge of the investigation into the RG Kar incident have also been suspended. Meanwhile, based on a petition filed by the victim’s family, the Calcutta High Court has formed a special division bench to hear the case. According to High Court sources, the division bench of Justice Tirthankar Ghosh and Justice Shampa Sarkar will now hear this case. Against this backdrop, the BJP MP from Tamluk raised serious allegations after visiting RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

On the other hand, authorities are cracking down on illegal parking inside RG Kar Hospital. It has been made clear that no form of illegal parking will be tolerated within the hospital premises. Not only that, strict surveillance is to be maintained to ensure that no touts solicit money from patients or their relatives at the hospital. According to sources, instructions have been given to take appropriate action upon receiving any complaint related to touts. Emphasis has also been placed on maintaining cleanliness in the hospital.
