More allegations are emerging against Councillor Sudip Polley. Police arrested a promoter close to Sudip Polley based on an extortion complaint in the Haridevpur area of the southern suburbs. The promoter, named Abhijit Das, faced a complaint filed at Haridevpur police station against Trinamool Councillor of Ward 123 and Chairman of Borough 16, Sudip Polley, one of their close associates, and several others. Notably, Trinamool leader Sudip Polley was already arrested on extortion charges. Two complaints had been filed against Sudip Polley at Thakurpukur police station. Before those were resolved, multiple complaints were lodged against the councillor at the neighboring Haridevpur police station. One of these incidents occurred in the Vaishalibag area.

A resident of that area alleged that he planned to build a wall on his land. For that, he went to Councillor Sudip Polley to get municipal permission. Sudip told him he could build the wall but must get the work done through his associate promoter. Otherwise, he threatened that the wall would not be allowed. When contacted, the promoter named Abhijit Das said it would cost 6 lakh rupees to build the wall. However, the complainant claimed his estimate was that the wall work could be completed within 2 lakh rupees. He was then demanded an additional 4 lakh rupees.

A resident of that area alleged that he planned to build a wall on his land. For that, he went to Councillor Sudip Polley to get municipal permission. Sudip told him he could build the wall but must get the work done through his associate promoter.

The complainant reported to the police that he had paid an advance of 3.5 lakh rupees. But in return, the promoter did not even start the wall work. When he asked for his money back, he was threatened. The team of the councillor and the promoter, known as the ‘terror’ of the Haridevpur area, also came and threatened the individual. Out of fear, he did not speak up. After the new government came in, he filed a complaint about this matter at Haridevpur police station.

Based on that, police began an investigation. After interrogating the promoter close to Sudip, Abhijit Das, the police arrested him. Sudip Polley is currently in the custody of Thakurpukur police station. Officers from Haridevpur police station may petition the court to take him into their custody later. Legal action may also be taken against the other accused. Meanwhile, a Trinamool youth leader close to the councillor of Ward 127 was arrested by Sarashuna police. His name is Tapan Biswas. Police said he faces allegations of extortion and land grabbing.
