Ebola Virus: The Ebola virus, rapidly spreading across several African countries, has heightened global concern. Meanwhile, a suspected case resembling the Ebola virus has emerged in India, raising alarm for the health department. In Ahmedabad, Gujarat, a 37-year-old businessman, Amuri Lokula, has been admitted to an isolation ward after showing symptoms similar to Ebola virus infection. Additionally, three individuals who came into contact with him have been admitted to different hospitals in Ahmedabad.
In fact, the businessman returned to India from Congo earlier this month and first arrived in Mumbai. After staying there for five days, he then went to Silvassa and Daman. He then reached Vadodara on May 22. On May 26, the businessman complained of a cold and fever. Considering his travel history, doctors referred him to Ahmedabad.
What did the Gujarat Health Minister say?
Regarding the entire matter, the Gujarat Health Minister stated that the patient has been kept under observation and his samples have been sent for testing. The report is currently awaited. Three other people who came into contact with the patient have also been placed in isolation as a precaution. It is noteworthy that earlier, a woman from Uganda was quarantined at Bengaluru airport.
Ebola virus not confirmed
The health department has clarified that no Ebola virus has been confirmed in India yet. However, despite this, all precautions are being taken. Rapid screening of people returning from travel to African countries is being conducted at several public places, including Ahmedabad airport.
It is noteworthy that earlier in Bengaluru, a woman returning from Uganda was isolated on suspicion of Ebola virus infection. However, her report came back negative, after which she was discharged from there.
