Congress Biennial Bye Election List: The Congress party has released its list of candidates for the Rajya Sabha biennial elections 2026. After approval from party president Mallikarjun Kharge, seven candidates have been announced. The party declared candidates for vacant seats in Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, and Jharkhand. From Karnataka, party national spokesperson Pawan Khera, Kharge, and Mansoor Ali Khan have been nominated. Earlier, the BJP had also released its list of candidates for the election.
Who is on the list?
According to the list, Congress has fielded party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Pawan Khera, and Mansoor Ali Khan from Karnataka. Former MP and senior Congress leader Meenakshi Natarajan has been fielded from Madhya Pradesh. Meanwhile, Neeraj Dangi is set to be sent to the Rajya Sabha again from Rajasthan. In Tamil Nadu, the party’s strategist and economist Praveen Chakravarty has been declared as the candidate. From Jharkhand, the party has given a ticket to Pranav Jha.

It is noteworthy that before Congress, the BJP had released its list for the Rajya Sabha elections, which includes Tai Tagak from Arunachal Pradesh, Rajubhai Shukla, Mukeshbhai Rathwa, and Mansingh Parmar from Gujarat, as well as Tarun Chugh and Rajneesh Agrawal from Madhya Pradesh.

Additionally, the party has fielded A. Sharda Devi from Manipur and Alka Gurjar along with Satish Poonia from Rajasthan. The BJP also declared Debashish Samantaray as its candidate from Odisha.
When will the election be held?
The Election Commission has announced elections for 27 Rajya Sabha seats and legislative council elections in three states. The elections will be held on June 18, 2026, with voting from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Vote counting will begin the same day at 7 p.m. Additionally, elections will be held for 24 Rajya Sabha seats across 10 states. By-elections will also take place for Rajya Sabha seats in Odisha, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu. In Bihar, voting will be held for nine legislative council seats, with a by-election for one seat.
