Severe heat expected in these states
According to the India Meteorological Department, severe heat is likely in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Vidarbha on 23 April. Parts of West Bengal may also experience heatwave-like conditions today.
Temperatures could reach 44 degrees
In Delhi-NCR, the maximum temperature today is expected to be around 42-44°C, while the minimum temperature will reach up to 30 degrees in many places. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for all these states. During this time, strong, hot winds (heatwave) will blow, making it risky to go out.
In North India, the sky will remain mostly clear. Meanwhile, hot and humid conditions will persist in central and eastern India. South India will also continue to experience humid, hot weather.
Heavy rain in northeastern states
Meteorologists say that moderate rainfall may occur in northeast India on 23 April. Strong winds will also blow during this time, making the weather pleasant. Some places in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall. Scattered rain and thunderstorms are also possible in Odisha and parts of eastern India. Light to moderate rain may occur in Kerala, Telangana, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh today.
New disturbance becoming active in the Western Himalayas
A new western disturbance is becoming active in the Western Himalayan region today. This could cause light rain or snowfall in Himachal, Uttarakhand, etc. Its effect may also provide some relief from the heatwave in parts of North India. After 23 April, the weather may change in some areas due to the influence of this western disturbance.
