New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephone conversation with Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. During the call, the two leaders recalled their meeting last month in Brasília, where they agreed on a comprehensive framework to enhance cooperation in key areas, including trade, technology, energy, defense, agriculture, health, and people-to-people ties.

The discussion took place on Thursday, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to taking bilateral relations to new heights. A statement from the Prime Minister’s Office noted that the leaders exchanged views on various regional and global issues of mutual interest. They also agreed to remain in close contact as their partnership develops.

Discussions on Bilateral Trade and Global Issues

In a post on his official X account, PM Modi described the conversation as “good.” He wrote, “Had a good conversation with President Lula. Thanked him for making my visit to Brazil memorable. We are committed to deepening our strategic partnership in trade, energy, technology, defense, health, and other areas. A strong, people-centric partnership between Global South nations benefits everyone.”

The emphasis on a “people-centric” approach reflects the shared vision of both leaders, positioning India and Brazil as hubs of cooperation within the Global South.

President Lula has expressed interest in leveraging Brazil’s agricultural and technological strengths for mutual growth. Meanwhile, India sees Brazil as a key partner in diversifying energy sources, expanding defense collaboration, and promoting inclusive health initiatives.
