Bihar, April 24, 2026. A major development has emerged in Bihar’s politics. The government led by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has secured a vote of confidence in the state assembly. The motion was passed through a voice vote, proving the government’s majority in the house.
In the state’s 243-member assembly, the motion was passed by voice vote, where the BJP-led NDA enjoys a massive majority with 202 seats. Earlier this month, after Janata Dal (United) president Nitish Kumar resigned as chief minister upon being elected to the Rajya Sabha, Choudhary became the first BJP leader to lead the government in the state. The new cabinet includes only two JD(U) leaders, Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav, who have been appointed as deputy chief ministers.
During the confidence vote, intense debate was witnessed in the house, with sharp exchanges between the ruling party and the opposition. The government defended its work and policies, while the opposition raised questions on various issues.
After the motion was passed through a voice vote, it became clear that the government has sufficient support. A voice vote is typically used when a clear majority is evident and a division (voting) is not necessary.
Following this victory, leaders of the ruling party described it as a win of public trust, while the opposition questioned the process and demanded transparency.
Political analysts believe that after this vote of confidence, the government’s position has strengthened for now, enabling it to advance its agenda and plans.
It will be important to see how the government uses this political strength in development work and policy decisions in the coming times.
