Six women in Bikaner, Rajasthan, suffered kidney failure after their condition worsened following cesarean deliveries; one is on a ventilator.
Repeat of Kota-like incident in the state Hospital accused of negligence Doctors attempted to cover up the case
A major negligence in the health department has been exposed in Rajasthan, a neighboring state of Madhya Pradesh. At PBM Hospital in Bikaner district, doctor negligence has also come to light. In fact, after cesarean deliveries in Bikaner, the condition of six women deteriorated one after another. It is now being claimed that all six women have suffered kidney failure. These patients are undergoing dialysis. All have been admitted to the ICU. Meanwhile, 20-year-old Preeti from Phalodi is on a ventilator. The women are aged between 20 and 27. Notably, a month ago in Kota, five women died from kidney failure after cesarean deliveries. Several other women had to be shifted to other private hospitals in critical condition. Initially, the hospital administration and doctors appeared to try to suppress and hide the entire matter, but the worsening condition of the affected women has exposed the system.
Excessive bleeding causes kidney failure
The incident occurred 10 to 15 days ago. In the maternity wing of PBM Hospital, women who had undergone C-section surgery suddenly began to deteriorate. They faced problems such as urinary retention, kidney failure, and low platelet count. A department head says that infection is not the only cause of kidney failure. Excessive bleeding can also be a reason. The matter is being investigated.
Multiple causes of kidney failure
A medical college principal said that acute kidney injury can have many causes. All patients admitted to the ICU are stable. The possibility of infection in the operating theater cannot be ruled out. For this, an infection detector is being installed. It can detect infection in just 90 seconds.
One woman on ventilator
Meanwhile, a nephrology professor said that due to HELLP syndrome, one out of five women is on a ventilator. The possibility of infection in the hospital cannot be completely ruled out. An investigation is ongoing. The exact causes will only be known after the report comes in.
Negligence already exposed in Kota
It is noteworthy that the investigation into the negligence at Kota Medical College was assigned to AIIMS Delhi. The report revealed that the oxytocin injections given to pregnant women in Kota to stop bleeding lacked essential components. Subsequently, based on a complaint from the Rajasthan Drug Department, the license of the Amritsar-based company was revoked.
