In Valsad district of Gujarat, five workers were injured on Friday morning when a structure of an under-construction bridge collapsed.

The incident occurred around 9:15 AM while leveling the main beam (girder) of the bridge being built over the Aurang river.

Five workers trapped in the debris were rescued and taken to the hospital. None of them are in serious condition.

The district administration stated that the local fire department has cleared the debris and an investigation into the incident will be conducted.

Of the five injured, four are in stable condition, while one is under observation in the hospital.

“This accident happened while performing ground-level load balancing work for the girder, which is done before placing the slab. The Roads and Buildings Department will conduct a detailed investigation and determine the exact cause of the accident.”

The bridge is being constructed at a cost of 45 crore rupees, approval for which was granted two years ago.

It is expected to be completed within a year.

Aurang river

It is named after the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, who campaigned in the region in the late 17th century. The river is a tributary of the Son River and its basin has been an important area for human settlement and agriculture for centuries.
