India-Canada relations 'extremely important': Prime Minister Modi

India and Canada expressed their commitment to restoring a constructive and balanced partnership based on each other’s concerns, sensitivities, strong people-to-people ties, and mutual respect, thereby paving the way to get bilateral relations back on track.

This significant consensus was reached during a bilateral meeting between the leaders of India and Canada in Cananaskis, Alberta, on the sidelines of the G-7 summit, where they also announced the appointment of high commissioners in New Delhi and Ottawa.

It is noteworthy that this was the first personal interaction between the two leaders following the recent general elections in Canada. The meeting provided both sides with an opportunity to have a clear and visionary discussion on the status of India-Canada relations and the way forward.
