BEKASI CITY — The Tirta Patriot Regional Drinking Water Company (PDAM) of Bekasi City continues to innovate in improving public services by launching a drinking water spot located at the Bekasi City Government Deer Park. This facility is designed to provide quality drinking water at an economical price at several strategic points.
The Mayor of Bekasi stated that this program is a continuation of the Bekasi City Government’s policy, which for a long time has no longer provided plastic bottled drinking water at every meeting or government activity.
« We initiated this program a long time ago. The Bekasi City Government no longer uses plastic bottled drinks. At every meeting and gathering, officials are required to bring their own tumblers, » said the Mayor after the launch event.
It was explained that previously, refilling tumblers still used water from gallon jugs. However, now the Bekasi City Government is innovating by presenting paid drinking water refill spots managed by Perumda Tirta Patriot.
« The goal is not to seek profit, but to ensure the operational machines continue to run and are maintained. Water usage should also be valued, adjusted to needs, » the explanation continued.
Meanwhile, the Director of PDAM explained that each drinking water spot unit is equipped with a storage tank with a capacity of about 20 to 25 liters, which will automatically refill when the water volume decreases. This system is also supported by a water quality sensor that works in real time.
« If the water quality no longer meets the standard, the sensor will immediately activate and the water will be diverted to waste. The system is almost the same as the one used in Chandrabaga, » the Director added.
Furthermore, regarding quality, PDAM ensures the water produced is truly safe for consumption. Results from the regional health laboratory examination show the water quality is very suitable for drinking, even having a pH level of 8.1, which is considered good for drinking water.
Besides being safe, this facility also offers advantages in terms of cost. The public only needs to pay Rp 300 per liter, or about Rp 500 to fill a one-liter capacity tumbler bottle. This scheme is considered far more economical compared to packaged drinking water.
« In terms of advantages, certainly efficiency. The price is cheap and accessible to anyone, » it was explained.
Nevertheless, PDAM has only operated four drinking water spot units as an initial stage. Two units have been installed in the Provincial Government area, while the other two units are still in the installation process at different points, including at the PDAM office.
Going forward, PDAM plans to gradually expand the installation of this facility. Over the next one to three months, an internal team will conduct evaluation and marketing analysis to determine the locations most in need of this ready-to-drink water spot service.
« We are starting with these four units as the launch phase. After that, we will expand to other points that truly need it, » it was concluded.
PDAM hopes that the presence of these drinking water spots can become a flagship service product while supporting an environmentally friendly lifestyle by reducing dependence on single-use packaged drinking water.
