From 2021 to 2024, Chongqing’s economy grew at an average annual rate of 5.7%, becoming the first city in central and western China with a total economic output exceeding 3 trillion yuan, and its per capita GDP surpassed 100,000 yuan.

The strategic tasks proposed in the « Chongqing Municipal National Economic and Social Development 14th Five-Year Plan and the Long-Range Objectives Through the Year 2035 » have been fully implemented. Among the main indicators, progress in economic growth and residents’ income is in line with expectations, while 13 indicators, including R&D spending intensity and average life expectancy, have exceeded expectations.

Over the past five years, Chongqing has worked hard to promote high-quality development and accelerate the building of an important strategic pivot for western development in the new era. Efforts have been made to build a national advanced manufacturing center. In 2024, the revenue of large-scale industries reached 2.8 trillion yuan, and the added value of the service industry reached 1.8 trillion yuan. Laptop computer production has ranked first in the world for 11 consecutive years. The production of intelligent connected new energy vehicles increased from 43,000 units in 2020 to 953,000 units in 2024. The high-performance aluminum alloy materials developed by Southwest Aluminum have been successfully applied in the C919 large aircraft. Both the main business income and the number of employees in the software and information service industry have doubled. « Strong Manufacturing City » has become a prominent label for Chongqing.

Over the past five years, Chongqing has accelerated the construction of a nationally influential scientific and technological innovation center. R&D spending increased by an average of 11% annually, and 11 national key laboratories were restructured and established. Key core technologies such as high-power drive motors have been broken through. The number of high-tech enterprises, technology-based enterprises, municipal-level and above scientific and technological innovation base platforms, and Class A disciplines have all doubled. The global ranking of scientific research cities rose from 98th in 2020 to 40th in 2024.

Over the past five years, Chongqing has accelerated the construction of an international consumption center city. The total retail sales of consumer goods exceeded 1.6 trillion yuan, ranking second among cities nationwide. The unique consumption scene of « Jiangya Jie Dongtian » has become a distinctive label of the « 8D Magic » mountain city. Regular light shows featuring 5,000 drones depict « Majestic Landscapes, New Charm of Chongqing » in the sky. From the Liziba Monorail passing through buildings and the stunning night view of Hongyadong to the top of the Three Gorges and the Hundred-Mile Wujiang Gallery, from Wushan Crisp Plums and Fengjie Navel Oranges to Chongqing Hot Pot and Rongchang Braised Goose, extreme experiences from the eyes to the taste buds have been created.

Over the past five years, Chongqing has accelerated the construction of a modern infrastructure system. The operating mileage of rail transit increased from 344 kilometers to 582 kilometers, making it possible for Bishan and Jiangjin to achieve half-hour convenient commutes to the central urban area. Northeastern Chongqing and Southeastern Chongqing have successively entered the high-speed rail era, and Qianjiang can reach the central urban area within one hour. The history of Chengkou County having no expressway has ended, achieving « county-to-county » expressway connectivity. Major projects such as external electricity transmission to Chongqing have successfully solved the electricity gap during summer peak periods.

C919

The C919 is a narrow-body passenger jet developed by the Chinese state-owned aerospace manufacturer COMAC. Its development, which began in 2008, was a major national project intended to compete with aircraft like the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737. It conducted its first flight in 2017 and entered commercial service with China Eastern Airlines in 2023.

Southwest Aluminum
