Addis Ababa, June 3, 2026 The Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission confirmed it is working to create a favorable environment for citizens to discuss key national issues, contributing to building consensus and a strong, stable state.

The Deputy Head of the Commission, Herut Gebreselassie, stated that Ethiopia is at a critical stage in its efforts to address chronic disagreements among citizens through constructive dialogue and inclusive consultations aimed at reaching a lasting national consensus.

She noted that the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission was established to facilitate a participatory process that enables citizens to discuss major national issues openly and transparently.

Since its establishment, the Commission has conducted extensive consultations with Ethiopians at home and abroad, gathering agendas and fostering broad public participation.

According to Herut, the consultation process has now reached a crucial phase, with preparations underway for the main national consultative conference.

The Commission is currently organizing the collected agendas and mobilizing necessary resources for the conference.

She said Ethiopia has created an environment where differences of opinion can be addressed through an organized and peaceful consultative process.

The Deputy Head of the Commission pointed out that citizens are actively participating in developing a consultative framework aimed at strengthening national consensus and state institutions by discussing core national issues.

She also revealed efforts to document the entire national consultation process, including through digital platforms, to ensure future generations benefit from this experience.

She further emphasized that the documentation efforts, including research and analysis, will provide opportunities to share experiences and lessons learned from Ethiopia’s experience with other countries.

She stated that the conference will be held with due consideration for Ethiopia’s diversity and national unity, ensuring that the concerns and aspirations of all Ethiopians are represented.

Herut added that the necessary technical and logistical preparations are being completed to ensure the successful convening of the main national consultative conference.
