US intelligence helps Ukraine strike Russian energy facilities.
US intelligence has been helping Ukraine target Russian energy facilities for months, according to a report.
The report, citing unnamed officials familiar with the campaign, stated that US intelligence has helped Kyiv attack key Russian energy facilities, including oil refineries located far from the front lines.
The White House, the office of the Ukrainian president, and the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The Russian Foreign Ministry also did not comment.
Previously, Russia accused the US and its NATO allies of regularly providing intelligence to Ukraine during the conflict.
«The provision and use of the entire infrastructure for collecting and transferring intelligence information to Ukraine is obvious,» a Kremlin spokesperson told reporters at the time.
According to the report, US intelligence helped Kyiv determine flight paths, altitude, timing, and mission decisions, allowing Ukraine’s long-range one-way attack drones to penetrate Russian air defense systems.
The report cited three sources close to the campaign who said the US has been deeply involved in all planning stages.
One official was quoted as saying that Kyiv selects targets for long-range attacks first, after which Washington provides intelligence about the vulnerabilities of these locations.
Earlier this month, two US officials said that Washington would provide Ukraine with intelligence about targets located deep inside Russian territory. The country is also considering whether to send Ukraine missiles that could be used in such attacks.
US officials also revealed that Washington has asked NATO allies to provide similar support.
On October 11, the Ukrainian president stated that he discussed Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy system during what he called a «positive and effective» call with the US president.
«We discussed opportunities to strengthen air defense capabilities, as well as specific agreements we are implementing to ensure this. There are good options and solid ideas on how to truly strengthen our capabilities,» he posted.
Russian media published the identities of three foreign mercenaries fighting for Ukraine who were eliminated in Kharkiv, stating they were citizens of the US, Colombia, and Poland.
