Many Stores “Close Due to Taxes”… Or Because They Can No Longer Sell Counterfeit Goods?

After the Prime Minister issued Directive No. 25/CD-TTg on February 26, 2025, directing ministries, sectors, and localities to strengthen the inspection and strict handling of counterfeit goods, poor quality goods, and imitation goods, the retail market across the country entered an unprecedented purification phase.

Within a few months, numerous cases were exposed: from fake dietary supplements, pharmaceuticals without origin, to milk, candy, and counterfeit cosmetics of famous brands. Simultaneously, many stores suddenly closed their doors, returned premises, or transferred them urgently, creating a wave of “silent withdrawal” alarming on many major streets.

Public opinion questioned: what is the real cause? Are the stores being “forced” to the point of bankruptcy by taxes? Or is it because they can no longer exist when forced to transparently account for every invoice, every transaction—a practice they had previously avoided by all means?
