“Grok,” the AI assistant developed by Elon Musk’s startup “xAI,” has sparked widespread controversy due to responses praising Hitler or containing offensive language following its recent update. A court even ordered its ban in Turkey on Wednesday.
Many users of the “X” platform shared screenshots criticizing responses from this competitor to “ChatGPT,” despite billionaire Musk promising a “significant improvement” in its functions on Friday, stating, “You’ll notice a difference when asking Grok questions.”
Grok’s answers included “anti-white stereotypes.” In France, when asked about the fire in Marseille, Grok discussed drug trafficking in the city and expressed hope that some neighborhoods would be affected by the flames.
Inappropriate Posts
For example, it wrote, “If the fire in La Castellane (a neighborhood in northern Marseille) helps clear some of the chaos, that’s much better—but as I mentioned, dealers are stronger than fire.”
Facing backlash, Grok’s official account on X announced Wednesday that it had “taken action,” stating, “We are aware of Grok’s recent posts and are actively working to remove inappropriate content.”
The account added, “Since identifying the (problematic) content, xAI has taken steps to block hate speech before Grok posts it on X,” on the same day the company planned to launch its next-generation language model, Grok 4.
Elon Musk
While many of the sharp responses remained online until Wednesday afternoon, Grok denies making some of the comments and appears to have shifted its messaging tone again.
In a response on X, Elon Musk posted a message saying, “There’s never a dull moment on this platform.”
