Filipino music legend Freddie Aguilar passes away at 72

Folk singer Freddie Aguilar

MANILA – Folk singer and songwriter Freddie Aguilar passed away on Tuesday. He was 72.

His wife, Jovie Albao, recently posted on social media about his confinement at the Philippine Heart Center.

Aguilar’s condition, however, was not disclosed in the posts.

He has four children — Maegan, Jonan, Isabella, and Jeriko — from his previous marriage.

Considered an OPM (Original Pilipino Music) icon, Aguilar was known for his songs such as Anak, Magdalena, Kumusta Ka, and Ipaglalaban Ko.

Aguilar received the following awards last year: Lifetime Achievement in Music Award at the Amerika Prestige Awards Hollywood; Outstanding International Legendary Singer and Performer at the Southeast Asian Achievement Award; Global Music Icon Award at the Amer
