MANILA, Philippines — The House prosecution panel has appointed a veteran litigation and human rights lawyer as the official spokesman for the upcoming impeachment trial against Vice President Sara Duterte.
The appointee, who personally appeared before the media on Tuesday, has been a practicing lawyer for 41 years and graduated from the University of the Philippines College of Law.
The spokesman will represent both public and private prosecutors in all official communications while the Senate trial is conducted.
“I am the spokesperson of the prosecution panel. There is no distinction. Both public prosecutors and private prosecutors are included,” the spokesman stated.
“What motivated me to accept this? For the country. Some friends from the prosecution panel talked to me, and they think I can help convey to the public what the prosecution is advocating. I accepted after talking to my family,” he asserted.
The spokesman added that his participation in the historic trial would be on a pro bono basis.
