On the morning of the 27th, a total of 31 drain covers were found missing from a municipal road in Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture.
According to Toyota City officials, a resident discovered that the drain covers along the roadside of a municipal road in Shimoyamadashiro-cho were missing around 5:30 a.m. on the 27th.
Upon inspection by city workers, it was confirmed that 31 metal covers had been removed.
The covers are rectangular, measuring 50 cm in length, 41 cm in width, and 9.5 cm in thickness, with each weighing approximately 18 kg.
The total damage is estimated at around 900,000 yen, and the city filed a report with the police on the 27th.
Along this municipal road, metal covers are installed at intervals of about 5 meters in many sections.
Toyota City has placed traffic cones in the areas where the covers were removed as a safety measure.
