On August 26, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, the provincial party secretary and chairman of the provincial people’s congress visited and expressed regards to veterans and senior comrades of the war, conveying high respect and sincere greetings on behalf of the provincial party committee and government. They also presented commemorative medals awarded by the central authorities to honor the “80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.”

Veteran Zhou Shaohua, aged 96, joined the revolution in 1941 and became part of the Shandong Column of the Eighth Route Army’s Fifth Corps. In 1947, he was awarded first-class merit for supporting the front lines and expanding military efforts. After moving south in 1949, he worked at the Hubei Provincial Federation of Literary and Art Circles and received the “Lifetime Achievement Award from the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles” in October 2024. The provincial party secretary visited Zhou Shaohua at his home, inquired about his health and living conditions, pinned the commemorative medal on him, and wished him good health and longevity. The secretary mentioned that the central leadership deeply cares for veterans and senior comrades of the war, and the decision to award the medals reflects the high regard of the central authorities. Veterans and comrades emerged from the hail of bullets and made tremendous contributions to achieving victory in the war and striving for national independence. We must always remember the heroic deeds and continue advancing along the path of our revolutionary predecessors.

The provincial party secretary also visited the home of 95-year-old veteran Hu Ziping, presented him with the commemorative medal, and had a heartfelt conversation with him. Hu Ziping joined the revolution in 1945, serving as a messenger in the Qiqu District Office of Pingding County, Shanxi Province. He moved south in 1948 and held positions in the Central Plains, Central China, and South Central bureaus before joining the Hubei Provincial People’s Procuratorate in September 1955, where he diligently contributed to the legal development of Hubei. The secretary held the veteran’s hand, asked about his health and family life, thanked him for decades of steadfast dedication to the country and its people, and wished him health and longevity. He urged relevant departments to care for veterans and senior comrades with compassion and responsibility, ensuring they feel the warmth of the party and enjoy a happy life in their later years.

During the visits, the provincial party secretary emphasized that veterans and senior comrades dedicated themselves to the party and the country, making outstanding contributions to the revolution, construction, and reform. They are invaluable assets to the party and the nation, inheritors and disseminators of the red legacy. It is essential to promote their exemplary deeds, share red stories, and educate and guide party members and officials to remain true to the original aspirations and mission, embarking on the new era’s Long March. Society should foster a strong atmosphere of respecting, learning from, and striving to be heroes. We must vigorously promote the great spirit of patriotism and the war of resistance, fully explore red resources, inherit fine traditions, continue the red bloodline, and with a stronger sense of historical initiative and excellent capabilities, unite powerful forces to build our great motherland more prosperous and strong.
