Recently, a news team followed the “See China in the Opening Year: Open Free Trade Port” online theme campaign to Hainan, experiencing how the province reshapes its development coordinates through the “warmth” and “depth” of technological innovation and the “heat” of policy empowerment.

From “Chains” to “Clusters”: A New Voyage in Commercial Space

As a key innovation engine for Hainan, the Wenchang International Aerospace City is writing a magnificent chapter in China’s commercial space ambition to “reach for the stars.”

Leveraging the advantages of Hainan Free Trade Port policies, Wenchang International Aerospace City is building an industrial system encompassing rocket chains, satellite chains, data chains, and space tourism. Commercial space development is accelerating, with an annual launch capacity set to exceed 60 launches, over 700 enterprises in the park, annual revenue surpassing 20 billion yuan, and the establishment of the first cross-border satellite data trade zone.

From “Airport Traffic” to “Economic Growth”

At the Hainan Airport Aviation Technology R&D Base, this experimental field connecting the runway to the world is accelerating its transformation from “airport traffic” into “economic growth.”

Over the past four years, the aircraft maintenance industry at Meilan Airport has expanded from 80 mu to 500 mu, with overseas maintenance business growing ninefold between 2023 and 2025. Leveraging institutional advantages such as duty-free policies and the opening of the seventh freedom of traffic rights, it is fostering the clustered development of industries like aircraft maintenance, aviation logistics, and the low-altitude economy.

“Exotic Fruits” Become “Fruits of Prosperity”

At the World Tropical Fruit Window, nearly 700 species of tropical fruits from over 50 countries and regions are taking root across mountains and seas, transforming from “foreign seeds” into “Hainan flavors.”

Relying on Free Trade Port policies, the park’s demonstration planting base has reached 5,000 mu, with key varieties promoted across an area of 45,000 mu in Hainan. Some varieties have even achieved reverse exports—dragon fruit seedlings are exported to Thailand, and high-quality mamey sapote varieties are going to Vietnam, realizing the goal of “not just growing fruits, but exporting standards and technology.”

Data Surging, Connecting the Globe

At the Haikou Fuxing City Internet Information Industrial Park, the flow of data not only activates cross-border livestreaming but also attracts global commercial information service giants.

The park is one of 13 key industrial parks in the Hainan Free Trade Port, focusing on core tracks like digital trade and cross-border data flow. To date, the park has registered over 10,000 enterprises, achieving revenue of nearly 200 billion yuan in 2025. The rise of cross-border livestreaming is a microcosm of the vibrant energy in this open highland.
