“You should be your own mountain; those who chase light will eventually shine brightly.” On June 4, in classroom of Class 2, Grade 12 at Chongqing Liangjiang Yucai High School, homeroom teacher and English teacher Feng Ling gave her students the final English lesson. Besides sharing exam tips, she also expressed her “little heartfelt wishes” for them.
During class, Feng Ling started with English listening comprehension, guiding students through pre-exam precautions for various question types. When she heard some students get nervous during listening exams, she immediately advised: “Before the English listening test, you must stay calm and focus. If you feel nervous, take a deep breath.”
“In fact, the listening test is not just an exam; it is also a life lesson,” Feng Ling told the students. Many things in life are like the college entrance exam listening test—there is only one chance. Just focus on completing the process well, and don’t cling to the outcome.
Feng Ling also helped students adjust their pre-exam state: “In these last few days, don’t panic when you see others doing practice questions. Follow your own pace. For example, if someone feels sleep-deprived, then get a good rest; if someone feels tense, then relax properly.”
“During high school, learning to get along with others, to get along with yourself, and to accept yourself calmly is equally important,” Feng Ling sincerely said to her students. On the path of learning, don’t be arrogant in victory or discouraged in defeat. Don’t dwell too much on gains and losses. Staying calm and giving your full effort is the best state. “Remember, each of you is excellent enough.” As Feng Ling finished speaking, applause rang out in the classroom.
When the bell rang, Feng Ling packed up her lesson plans and walked out of the classroom. Behind her, a student picked up a badminton racket and called classmates to the playground; others grabbed basketballs and dashed toward the basketball court.
“That’s how it should be—study when it’s time to study, play when it’s time to play,” Feng Ling said. She hoped they would walk into the exam hall with this ease and confidence.
