On the afternoon of August 30th, President Xi Jinping met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres at the Tianjin State Guesthouse. Guterres was in China to attend the 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit.

The Tianjin State Guesthouse is a historic luxury hotel originally built in 1863 as the Astor Hotel by British settlers. It is renowned for its colonial-era architecture and for having hosted numerous dignitaries and historical figures, including U.S. President Herbert Hoover and China’s last emperor, Puyi.
Shanghai Cooperation Organization
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is a Eurasian political, economic, and security alliance originally founded in 2001 by China, Russia, and four Central Asian states, evolving from a 1990s-era agreement on border security. Its primary goals are to promote cooperation on security issues, combat terrorism, and enhance economic and cultural collaboration among its member states.
