October is the peak activity period for Aedes mosquitoes (which transmit Chikungunya and Dengue fever) in our province and city, posing a high risk of mosquito bites to residents. There is a significant transmission risk for both Chikungunya and Dengue fever outbreaks. On the 11th, Shenzhen CDC reminded citizens that if they experience symptoms such as fever, joint pain, or rash after returning from travel, they should seek medical attention promptly.
CDC experts explain that Chikungunya fever is transmitted through bites from infected Aedes mosquitoes (commonly known as tiger mosquitoes), with fever, severe joint pain, and rash being the three main symptoms. Shenzhen CDC advises that if citizens develop any symptoms such as fever, joint pain, or rash after returning from the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holidays, they must visit a正规医疗机构 as soon as possible and should not “tough it out.” When seeking medical care, they should proactively inform doctors about their travel history and mosquito bite exposure within the two weeks before symptoms appeared.
Shenzhen CDC reminds citizens to regularly change water and clean water-grown plants to prevent mosquito breeding. Indoors, mosquito coils, electric mosquito repellent liquids, and installation of screen doors, window screens, and mosquito nets can be used. If citizens suspect they might be infected with Chikungunya fever, they are advised to get tested at nearby medical facilities promptly. Currently, 52 medical institutions across the city provide testing services, which citizens can check through the “Shenzhen CDC” WeChat official account.
