The largest rental housing community in Shanghai, the Chengtou Kuan Ting Zhangjiang Community Phase II, officially opened on May 18. Following the supply of 4,455 units in Phase I in 2023, an additional 3,180 fully furnished units are now available to support young professionals in finding a place to live and work.
The Chengtou Kuan Ting Zhangjiang Community is located in the core area of Zhangjiang Science City, north of the Zhangjiang High-Tech Park, with Ningfeng Road dividing it into the northern Phase I and southern Phase II. The surrounding area is home to key industries such as integrated circuits, biomedicine, and artificial intelligence, along with large supermarkets, schools, and parks, providing young residents with a convenient and comfortable living environment.
With the overall goal of creating a “safe residential area, vibrant commercial district, active community, low-carbon neighborhood, and smart urban zone,” the Zhangjiang Community integrates commercial amenities, property services, and youth innovation spaces. Under the guidance of local government, the community has launched diverse activities such as a youth rowing invitational and a Pudong Youth Academy, helping young talents feel more at home and live more fulfilling lives.
The Zhangjiang Community aims to offer young professionals an ideal living journey from “a single bed” to “a complete home.” After the release of 4,455 fully furnished units in Phase I, the market response was strong, with an overall occupancy rate exceeding 95%. The Phase II project, with a total floor area of about 139,000 square meters, consists of eight high-rise buildings and includes seven apartment types. The main unit is a 27-square-meter one-bedroom, along with a 53-square-meter larger one-bedroom, a 57-square-meter one-bedroom with a living room, and two-bedroom units of 83, 92, and 115 square meters, covering diverse housing needs from single individuals to families.
On the opening day, the units were seen to be fully equipped with household appliances like air conditioners, refrigerators, and washing machines, as well as basic living amenities such as wardrobes, desks, and beds, allowing young professionals to move in with just their luggage. The Phase II community also includes a 600-square-meter youth center with spaces for innovation, shared study rooms, public activity rooms, and a shared gym, meeting both work and leisure needs. Additionally, building on the nearly 10,000 square meters of commercial space in Phase I, Phase II adds about 4,500 square meters of commercial area, with plans to introduce services like pet care, sports and entertainment, parent-child activities, health management, and light dining and socializing.
The head of the Zhangjiang Community operations team stated on the day: “From 24-hour maintenance response to smart service systems; from clean public spaces to a safe and orderly community environment, we treat every ‘small matter’ as a ‘big deal.’ We regularly collect residents’ feedback on living experiences and improvements, and organize community activities like holiday gatherings, sports meetups, and skill exchanges, ensuring this place offers not just ‘housing’ but also a ‘community.'”
“Long commutes, unstable rentals, and incomplete living facilities… these seemingly trivial issues can drain young people’s creativity. Today, the completion and launch of this youth talent community provide a warm and powerful solution,” said a corporate representative who was among the first to arrange employee move-ins. “I’ve witnessed the smiles on colleagues’ faces as they moved in. It’s a feeling of truly settling down in this city.”
The representative added that the Zhangjiang Community brings together young professionals from various excellent companies in the park. People from different backgrounds living in the same building can spark ideas in elevators, gyms, or shared kitchens. They look forward to promoting cross-company tech salons, interest groups, and innovation workshops, allowing young talents to inspire each other in a relaxed atmosphere.
Since May 1, 2025, the Pudong New Area has implemented measures to support young talent innovation and entrepreneurship, aiming to create a “first stop for innovation and entrepreneurship.” Phase I of the Zhangjiang Community has introduced over 1,200 low-rent youth apartments, and Phase II adds another 2,000 units, effectively helping young talents to establish roots and develop.
