The first nationwide destination-free sea cruise route will set sail on June 6, with the maiden voyage operated by the first domestically built large cruise ship, the “Adora Magic City”. To enhance the passenger experience, the occupancy rate for the inaugural voyage is capped at 80%, with advance ticket sales already exceeding 75%.

Previously, the Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission, in collaboration with multiple departments, has been actively promoting the pilot program for destination-free sea cruises. A destination-free sea cruise refers to a cruise tourism model where the ship departs from a Chinese home port and cruises entirely on the high seas without any specific port of call, emphasizing a spontaneous and relaxing leisure experience.

This destination-free sea cruise is a new tourism product targeting specific groups. The new concept of “boarding equals vacation” returns to the essence and origin of the cruise sea experience. This model requires no overseas visa and offers flexible itineraries, catering to diverse consumer needs such as weekend micro-vacations and family trips. In addition to passports, passengers can also use identity cards to apply for exit-entry travel permits for convenient travel.

The destination-free sea cruise route will last a total of 3 days and 2 nights, departing from Wusongkou Cruise Port on Saturday, June 6, and returning to the departure port early on Monday, June 8.

To welcome the maiden voyage, the “Adora Magic City” has further enriched its onboard offerings, adding entertainment activities such as pop concerts, stand-up comedy, magic shows, theme parties, and social dances. All sea sports facilities are fully open, and food and beverage services are available 24/7.

Industry insiders note that the launch of the destination-free sea cruise route has opened up a new consumption scenario in the domestic cruise market, filling a gap in Shanghai’s short-haul high-end water tourism products. It is expected that the pilot program will gradually expand in the future.
