On August 19, citing so-called informed sources, it was reported that billionaire Musk is “quietly suspending plans to launch a new party, the ‘American Party’.” According to the report, Musk has recently devoted some energy to maintaining his relationship with the U.S. Vice President Vance, and admitted to partners that forming a new political party would damage his relationship with Vance. He will “focus on the operations of his companies.” The report also stated that Musk and his aides have informed Vance’s close associates that “if Vance decides to run in the 2028 presidential election, Musk is considering using some of his financial resources to support him.”
In response to this report, the White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Musk posted on a social platform: “Never assume anything The Wall Street Journal says is true.”
It is understood that Vance had called for a “ceasefire” between Musk and Trump after their public dispute. This month, he reiterated his stance and stated that he had “persuaded Musk to return to the Republican camp.”
Previously, the intense conflict between Musk and the Trump administration over the so-called “big and beautiful” tax and spending bill continued to escalate. On July 5, Musk announced the formation of a new party independent of the Republican and Democratic parties—the “American Party”—and claimed that the party would represent “80% of the centrist voters” in American society, striving to gain a seat in Congress through elections.
