At this new starting point, I hope you will persist in using the Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era as your guide, focus on the country’s major strategic needs, deepen reforms in teaching and scientific research, strengthen basic research and technological breakthroughs, improve the quality of talent cultivation, better serve economic and social development, and make new contributions to building China into a strong educational and technological nation and advancing Chinese modernization.

Tianjin University, formerly known as Peiyang University, was established in 1895 as China’s first modern university and was renamed Tianjin University in 1951. Recently, all faculty and students of Tianjin University wrote a letter to report on the university’s 130-year educational journey and recent development achievements, expressing their determination to follow the path of independent talent cultivation and technological self-reliance, and to contribute more to building China into a strong educational nation.
