A 1976 first-generation Honda Accord slowly emerged from a container, undergoing inspection by customs officers from the Beijing Convention Center Customs under Beijing Customs. The vehicle was transported directly to the venue after entering the country through an integrated customs clearance process at Tianjin Airport. “We will carefully verify whether the brand, model, and chassis number of these exhibited vehicles match the declared content in the customs declaration form. Once confirmed, they will be immediately moved in for setup,” said Yang Guanyu, head of the Third Exhibition Supervision Section of Beijing Convention Center Customs. As of April 23, Beijing Customs had supervised 25 batches of imported exhibits for this auto show (including 8 vehicles), with a total value of $5.88 million.
The auto show will be held in Beijing from April 24 to May 3. For the first time, the event will feature a dual-venue collaboration between the China International Exhibition Center (Shunyi Hall) and the Capital International Convention and Exhibition Center (New China International Exhibition Center Phase II). The total exhibition area will reach 380,000 square meters, setting a new historical record for the event’s scale and also breaking the global record for auto show size.
“We actively implement a dedicated coordinator system for exhibitions, providing a series of convenient customs clearance measures such as ‘7×24-hour’ appointment-based clearance, ‘green channels,’ and ‘zero-delay release.’ We proactively coordinate with event organizers and venues, send staff to pre-exhibition coordination meetings for the auto show, and offer on-site supervision with exemption from deposit guarantees for the Capital International Convention and Exhibition Center, which is hosting an auto show for the first time. This fully leverages policy benefits to facilitate the event for all parties. At the same time, we strengthen collaboration with port customs to ensure seamless connections across all customs clearance procedures, enabling barrier-free direct transport of exhibits from ports to the venue, fully supporting the smooth operation of this auto show,” said Liu Tianle, deputy director of Beijing Convention Center Customs.
To address the record-breaking scale of this auto show, Beijing Convention Center Customs fully leverages the “five-in-one” smart exhibition supervision advantages, strengthening full-chain smart supervision services. This includes enhancing remote video surveillance for both venues, deploying staff for on-site supervision and inspection during the exhibition, and introducing customs working dogs for on-site searches of imported exhibits. These measures reinforce the supervision and inspection of exhibits entering through exhibition channels, further improving regulatory efficiency and service levels.
“Throughout the process from entry to setup of the auto show exhibits, we received strong support from customs, especially the ‘one-stop’ service at dedicated windows and measures like on-site supervision without deposit guarantees. These ensured that exhibited vehicles could clear customs safely and quickly for a smooth participation in the exhibition,” said Zhang Lan, deputy general manager of China International Exhibition Transportation Co., Ltd., responsible for customs declaration of international exhibits.
In recent years, Beijing Convention Center Customs has closely aligned with the capital’s strategic positioning as the “four centers,” fully leveraging customs’ role as a hub for the domestic and international dual circulation in the exhibition industry. By precisely focusing on optimizing regulatory services and promoting technological innovation, it has effectively supported the smooth holding of major international exhibitions such as the “China International Fair for Trade in Services” and the “Chain Expo.” It also fully utilizes the brand effect of specialized exhibitions like the “Auto Show,” “Machine Tool Exhibition,” and “Printing Exhibition,” promoting deeper integration between exhibitions and the capital’s advantageous and emerging industries. This further enhances the exhibition industry’s ability to serve the capital’s strategic positioning, boosting high-quality development and high-level opening-up in Beijing. In the first quarter, Beijing Convention Center Customs registered 21 inbound and outbound exhibitions, a year-on-year increase of 23.5%, and supervised exhibition goods valued at $980 million, a year-on-year increase of 151.3%.
