800-Person Array Performs “Battle for the City’s Name”

The opening ceremony of this year’s Yue Super League will be held at Guangzhou’s home ground, Yuexiu Mountain Stadium, a venue steeped in a century of Guangzhou football history. The facility has undergone turf maintenance, equipment repairs, and functional area optimization. The stadium atmosphere is deeply integrated with city elements such as the Canton Tower and kapok flowers, creating the exclusive slogan “Climbing New Heights on Yuexiu Mountain,” showcasing the heritage of Lingnan football and urban vitality.

The highly anticipated opening ceremony, themed “Battle for the City’s Name, the More We Fight, the Braver We Become,” will begin at 7:00 PM and last no more than 30 minutes. It is divided into three chapters, using laser technology, light projections, and other modern techniques to depict the development of Guangdong football and the spirit of urban sports. About 800 people will participate in the ceremony, and on-site spectators will receive exclusive game-day gift packages.

As the biggest highlight of this event, the opening ceremony is not limited to the field. During the opening match, Yuexiu Mountain Stadium will be filled with team flags, banners, fan-zone flag seas, scarf walls, and giant TIFOs, creating a passionate and awe-inspiring atmosphere. That evening, the Canton Tower will display public service advertisements featuring Yue Super League elements, and public screens across all districts, outdoor screens of various units, electronic screens at patriotic education bases, and national defense education bases will simultaneously broadcast promotional posters and videos for the Yue Super League opening, the opening match, and the 2026 Guangdong Sports City League.

In terms of ticketing, Yuexiu Mountain Stadium will open approximately 12,000 seats, with a promotional price of 8.8 yuan. The competition area has simultaneously improved security, medical services, volunteer support, and other full-process guarantees to provide fans with a safe and comfortable viewing experience.

Opening Match Highlights:

Southern Heritage Meets Grassroots Power

One day before the match, both teams have entered a state of readiness. Guangzhou, with home-field advantage, is led by former Guangzhou Sun God team central defender and 55-year-old football veteran Peng Jinbo. The team completed player selection in mid-March and quickly entered systematic, professional preparation. The 40 elite players come from diverse backgrounds, including teachers, students, auxiliary police, corporate employees, and freelancers, showcasing the immense enthusiasm and deep grassroots foundation of Guangzhou, a city renowned for football.

Peng Jinbo stated that after nearly a month of training, each player’s individual skills and physical condition have improved, and the team has basically determined its starting lineup. “We have also been testing our overall tactics through one or two friendly matches per week, and now we have basically met our pre-season plan.” Regarding the opening match, Peng Jinbo said the team will carefully prepare its pre-match strategy and give their all on the field for the opening game, striving for a winning start. “First, we need to play every match well, always aiming for the championship!”

Jiangmen presents a different picture. The team’s average age is just over 22, with players ranging from 16 to 39 years old. Sixteen-year-old Li Kunyi is the youngest player in this Yue Super League, while 39-year-old Li Zhijun is the team’s elder. Players come from all walks of life: firefighter Qin Can, sports teacher Bu Chenxi from Enping Huafu School, Xinjiang youth coach Abduweli Yasin, and Su Jianfu, a third-year student

Yuexiu Mountain Stadium

Yuexiu Mountain Stadium, located in Guangzhou, China, is a historic multi-purpose stadium originally built in 1950 and renovated several times since. It has hosted major events, including the 1991 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2010 Asian Games. The stadium remains a key sports and cultural venue in the city.

Canton Tower

The Canton Tower, located in Guangzhou, China, is a 600-meter-tall (1,969 ft) observation tower completed in 2010. It was built for the 2010 Asian Games and features a distinctive, supertall hyperboloid structure that twists as it rises. The tower has since become an iconic symbol of the city’s modern skyline, offering panoramic views and housing a revolving restaurant.

Guangzhou Sun God team

The “Guangzhou Sun God team” is not a widely recognized cultural site or historical place; it appears to refer to the Guangzhou Sun God Temple, a Taoist temple dedicated to the sun deity. Located in Guangzhou, China, the temple has historical roots dating back to the Ming Dynasty, serving as a site for worship and festivals honoring the sun. Today, it remains a cultural landmark where locals and visitors engage in traditional rituals and celebrations.
