On October 24, the Three Gorges Reservoir achieved its 2025 water storage target of 175 meters. This marks the 14th time the reservoir has reached full capacity since first hitting 175 meters in 2010, laying a solid foundation for maximizing comprehensive benefits in water supply, ecology, power generation, and navigation this winter and next spring.

Following the reservoir’s full storage, the Wanzhou Maritime Department in Chongqing has strengthened 24-hour emergency standby duty, enhanced on-site control, and promptly issued high-water-level warnings to ensure safety and smooth navigation in the area.

Three Gorges Reservoir

The Three Gorges Reservoir is a vast body of water on China’s Yangtze River, created by the monumental Three Gorges Dam. It was formed between 1994 and 2006, submerging towns, archaeological sites, and farmland to control flooding and generate hydroelectric power. The reservoir’s creation involved the relocation of over a million people and remains one of the largest and most controversial engineering projects in history.
